Week of 10/26/25
Research and Learning:
Continuing to learn MCP servers
Starting to learn agents and slash commands in Claude code
Future Research to do:
Switch Nvidia to dkim and switch kernels, and test gaming
commands to remember:
ssh -D port user@host + web server with a proxy plugin (handy to pipe your dns and web traffic over a socks5 proxy sometimes.
Improvements:
Attempting to add dall-e-2 or 3 to openwebui. Such a pain to get the api working. had to verify. Settings still not quite working.
Set up kids’ account for OpenWeb UI to give AI chat with guard rails and oversight.
Fixed Discord update bug in arch.
Switched Nvidia drivers to dkms package.
Installed the regular and zen kernels as well as the kernel headers. Now I can switch between LTS, regular, and zen kernels and test to see which I like best, then remove the excess.
Successfully wrote an MCP server to interact with my Notion Workspace via API, and it has 8 tools.
Installed gemini_cli and now have AI in the terminal that can read and write files on my local pc. (free tier)
Installed Claude code CLI (paid API)
Installed codex CLI - (paid API)
Mistakes:
GCP UI is lame. Trying to map various projects to one billing account is annoying when the project selector box disappears on some screens.
That’s it for this week’s Tech Update. -Derek
